The Magic of Oils on the Skin

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered why your skin looks dull, dry, and lackluster? If so, you’re not alone—many people struggle with dry and dehydrated skin. However, there is a simple solution for that problem: oils! Natural oils are excellent for nourishing and healing the skin, providing a soft, glowing complexion. Not all oils are equal! Follow along as I break down some of the most popular oils for the skin and why everyone, including teenagers, should be using them on a daily basis.

Oils have been used in beauty regimens for the past 40,000 years. It's only been in the last 45 years that oil-free beauty products have been centered in the conversation of skincare and beauty. Not only does oil moisturize the skin, but they also act as an anti-inflammatory agent, a natural SPF protectant, and help preserve to youthfulness of the skin. Because so many women have followed an oil-free routine for so long, we are seeing many more faces with lines and wrinkles and sagging due to this long-term lack of oil in our client's routines.

Moisturizing Power of Oils

Oils act as a natural protective barrier on the skin. This barrier helps keep hydration sealed in and blocks irritants out. Additionally, it can help minimize fine lines and wrinkles caused by dehydration and overexposure to pollution, climate, irritating ingredients such as fragrance, and UV rays.

Not all oils are created equal though—some are better at nourishing than others. Here are some of the best natural oils to use for healthy skin.

Jojoba oil, leaf, and fruit surrounding vial of jojoba oil on a white background.

Jojoba Oil: With a nearly identical chemical structure to skin’s natural sebum, jojoba minimizes the appearance of pores and balances oily T-zones. It absorbs quickly into the skin without clogging pores or leaving behind an oily residue. It is great for moisturizing all types of skin because it has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and irritation. Three Ships Beauty Glow Jojoba Oil Serum is our go-to for this beautiful and uncomplicated oil.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil has been used as a beauty product for centuries! It is rich in antioxidants which help protect and repair damaged cells while also promoting collagen production. It’s also naturally antibacterial and antifungal which makes it great at fighting off bacteria that can cause breakouts or other skin issues. Three Ships Beauty Nourish Lavender Cleansing Oil is a Non-comedogenic fractionated coconut oil (MCT) melts away stubborn makeup, dirt and oil.

Avocado Oil: Avocado oil is incredibly nourishing due to its high vitamin E content. Vitamin E helps reduce inflammation while also promoting cell regeneration which can result in brighter looking skin! Plus, avocado oil contains essential fatty acids that help to plump up your complexion giving it a youthful glow. Our favorite natural mineral SPF 50 from Salt + Stone includes avocado oil in its formulation for a creamy, moisturizing texture.

Rosehip Seed Oil: Rosehip seed oil is one of the most powerful healing oils available today thanks to its high levels of vitamins A & C which help reduce signs of aging such as wrinkles and sun damage. It is also packed with essential fatty acids which help moisturize dry patches of skin while soothing any irritations like eczema or psoriasis flare-ups. Knours One Perfect Revival Eye Cream includes rosehip oil to help with cellular regeneration.

Olive Oil: High content of Phenols with antioxidant properties to protect and brighten skin for a radiant complexion. Healthy Fatty Acids provide strong anti-inflammatory properties and help breakdown and enhance the absorption of fat soluble nutrients and Vitamins (A, D, E, and K). Sterols promote youthful glow, reduce trans-epidermal water loss to improve hydration, & locks in moisture. Vitamins E & K repair skin’s moisture barrier and help protect & support collagen production. Furtuna Skincare Hydrate and Glow Set is jam-packed with olive oil and olive leaf water to infuse the skin with antioxidant protection and regeneration.
